programs

Metro Arts Alliance provides a wide variety of programs at low or no cost that bring the arts to where you are. From Jazz in July, to our Arts Education Programs, to artAbility, we truly offer something for everyone. Our programs enrich our community through arts and culture experiences that benefit everyone!

artABILITY is a family-friendly, multidisciplinary arts event at the Iowa State Fair that recognizes, embraces, and celebrates artists of all ages with disabilities. The 11-day event (August 10 – 20, 2017) is fully accessible to Iowans of all ages and abilities and includes:

  • Exhibitions and demonstrations by visual artists with disabilities

  • An exhibition of artwork by children with disabilities

Dining for the the Arts is a celebration of food, fashion, live entertainment and art within the community. This annual springtime celebration recognizes those Iowa arts and organizations that have made significant contributions to the arts in Iowa.

The event includes a cocktail and heavy hors d’oeuvres reception, silent auction, fashion show and the presentation of the AWE (Art Within Everything) Awards.

Each year, nearly 15,000 residents from Polk, Warren, and Dallas counties participate in Metro Arts Education through its enrichment programs, GreenArts, and community events. We are currently in the process of becoming an Affiliate of a new arts integration residency program known as the Wolf Trap Early Education program. Access to the arts for youth, particularly through the education system, is a key goal for Metro Arts Alliance.

Our programs ensure that the arts are part of a complete education. Beyond nurturing artistic talent, the programs also help develop critical thinking skills necessary to a child’s future success, and build future audiences who will sustain arts appreciation.

Metro Arts Jazz in July: More than just a concert series.

For more than three decades, Metro Arts Jazz in July is the city’s longest-running concert series that engages area residents in new music, while promoting Iowa musicians and the American legacy and art form of jazz. Many of the concerts now include food vendors, artists selling their work, and hands-on arts activities for children, turning each concert into a community festival celebrating live, outdoor jazz.
