Metro
Arts Alliance, in partnership with The City of Des Moines and the
Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation, invites visual artists
who have past or current ties to the community to submit original
art to be published in the City of Des Moines' 2005 Performance
Report: The Art of Community . Nine pieces will be selected
for the report based upon their quality and thematic representation
of the report's content.
With
the financial support of the Greater Des Moines Public Art Foundation,
a $500 award will be provided to artists for each piece chosen for
inclusion in the report. Selected artists will retain ownership
of their artwork. In addition to the financial opportunity,
this competition provides excellent public exposure for chosen artists.
With the honor, the photograph and information about each
artist will be published in the report along with the featured artwork.
The finished report will also be included on the City and Metro
Arts Alliance websites.
The
Art of Community Performance Report will be the City's second
report of its kind. The City printed 12,000 copies of its
report, Creating the City of Choice , in February of 2005,
which since has been recognized as one of nine award-winning performance
reports from the Association of Government Accountants.
Those
interested in submitting art for the competition may contact Metro
Arts Alliance for guidelines and an application. Completed
submissions in the form of slides or digital images must be received
no later than January 11, 2006. For more information contact
Tracy Levine, Executive Director of Metro Arts Alliance at 515-280-3222.
